Afrofuturism and technological inquiry are the focuses of my artistic practice, guided by a deep desire to understand the complexities of race, society, and culture in relation to technology. Through my work, I hope to demonstrate how art can provoke introspection, dialogue, and social change. At the core of my practice lies a relentless pursuit of truth and understanding, particularly concerning the ways in which technology intersects with issues of race and identity. Through an interdisciplinary approach that melds research, experimentation, and creative expression, I endeavor to illuminate the often obscured dynamics of power, privilege, and oppression embedded within our technological systems. Delving deep into the historical legacies of colonization, slavery, and systemic racism, I confront the ways in which these forces continue to shape our digital landscapes and perpetuate inequalities, especially for marginalized communities.
By excavating hidden narratives and exposing structural injustices, my art serves as a beacon of awareness, challenging viewers to confront uncomfortable truths and envision alternative futures. In crafting my pieces, I draw inspiration from a diverse array of sources, ranging from academic scholarship and historical archives to personal anecdotes and lived experiences. This interdisciplinary approach allows me to weave together complex narratives that resonate on both intellectual and emotional levels, inviting viewers to engage with my work in profound and meaningful ways.
Through mediums such as game engines, virtual and augmented reality, physical computation, and mixed media installations, I create immersive environments that blur the boundaries between the real and the imagined. These interactive experiences serve as portals into alternative realities, where viewers are encouraged to question established norms, challenge dominant narratives, and envision new possibilities for collective liberation. But my art is not merely a reflection of the world as it is—it is a manifestation of the world as it could be. Creating spaces of resistance, resilience, and reclamation is at the core of every fabrication, each line of code, and every gesture of creation that I make.
